Our Family of 5.

We are a family of FIVE... my husband and I and our three kids... A boy 7 and two girls, 5 and 4... So in a time frame of 3 1/2 years we change a house for two into a house for five!...

Oh boy!... I cannot tell you the disaster; I suddenly had a newborn crying a 1 and 1/2 crying too and my 3 and 1/2 wanting attention too of course... plus my husband at the time was working from home, so the "office/warehouse" was in the house too... "organization", "un-clutter", "nice view"... those were concepts that were totally unknown in this house!!!... The piles of clothes were ridiculous!!! and they were clean!!!... I know there are a LOT on super moms out there that despite the number of kids and everything they can maintain a spotless/magazine house... So since my little one turned 4 and started her school (at least half day), I've been alone for the first time in YEARS! (for almost three hours)... So I discover Pinterest :))...

WOW what amazing moms, organizational tips, you know what I mean... But before encountering Pinterest it was my plan ... once the little one started school, I'll start regaining the house and Pinterest was like send from heaven!...

So I have a lot of projects on paper and on my mind, waiting just for the money and time to be a reality and I'll share it here :)

Cake's Progress

I've always liked to do things by myself... so my kids birthday cakes is a most!... These pictures are a couple of years old, when I didn't knew other than regular icing...

Until a friend of mine told me how she does her fondant and voilĂ ! ... A bag of mini marshmallows, a bag of confectioners or powdered sugar and food coloring was all I needed!

As you can see the cakes took a big improvement!... It's not that professional I know (the things you see on Pinterest today Wow!)...  Since I discover this it was like I had a new toy in my hands... it is like you were playing with clay or play-doh and whatever is in you mind you can dare to do it! ... Of course not always will came out as you see it in your head (frown)... But this came out and we all love it!, it was inspired on one of her pj's!!!

Another of the discoveries was the mixing of colors... My older son was at the time crazy about the planets... so I try to do something very simple but that resemble one... Here I mix (or knead) a few strips together, each with a different color and even add a spot there to look like Jupiter!... maybe it didn't look like it, but the important thing is that he loove it!!!

And what other cake shape can you do when Valentine's Day is here... This one was a tricky one too... maybe all the experts out there must think "this amateur doesn't know what she's doing!"... I'm sorry!!!... I'm very empiric... I like to embark on thing with what I have in my head and things just come out... I don't always read or investigate before the doings... sometime I should... But practice takes you there... no?

So when Easter came I could but imagine the new design that was waiting to came out of the fondant dough... And here the shape was tricky, of course I try to shape the cake like an egg and the fondant cracked in the curves and edges... so I thought and thought and thought a little bit more and try to repair it (repair the fondant was useless)... so I imagine the eggs in a coup with the chicken with all that hay and I said "That's it... HAY!"... so I cover all the surrounding with hay and did all these little eggs and decorated them and put them as if the bunny hide them!... I think it's been the funniest cake!

On this other day I wasn't thinking in doing "a cake" the most I was thinking was doing a simple cake... When my littlest one said "Mom, where is my cake?... with strawberry and flowers"... And I was like "Whaaat???... strawberries, flowers on a cake???"... So after some thinking we came up with a strawberry shaped cake with some little flowers on it... I put a candle on each flower... So at least each of my kids had a pretty-custom-birthday cake this year...

I still have A LOT to learn and create... so practice, practice and more practice will come and will be shared. :)

... There's one more to share... And of course there are details ... I don't have a good final picture were I used a pink'ruffle magic wand at a side covering some little details :P ... But for my daughter was the prettiest cake and that is what made my day :)
